Highlight for Album: Huichol Photos
Huichol Photos
This album contains both Huichol yarn paintings and photos of the artists Jose and Lorenzo Taizan Gonzalez and their families. The Huichol are an indigenous people living in the Mexican states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Durango and Zacatecas. They maintain much of their traditional culture, and create beautiful artwork based on myths, stories, dreams and visions. The yarn paintings are created by spreading a layer of beeswax/pine resin on a board, then pressing in thin colorful yarns. The resulting images are fabulous and intensely colorful, each accompanied by a story. (In Oregon these yarn paintings are for sale at The Global Exchange on Hawthorne, Onda Art Gallery on Alberta, and It's Only Fair in Manzanita. In Mexico at Arte de Sayulita in Sayulita, or private showing. Email for more information.)
